With a generous donation of Sadolin Classic, Crown Paints has helped the River Stour Trust to complete a project which will help many people to continue to learn about and appreciate the Stour, one of the longest and most beautiful rivers in East Anglia.

The Trust was established to protect and enhance the right of the public to navigate the waterway which runs through an Area of Outstanding Beauty and which inspired many of Constable’s famous riverside scenes. When the time came to redecorate and protect its Visitor and Education centre in Great Cornard, a number of organisations were approached for assistance including Crown Paints. Whilst the Trust has a resourceful, dedicated group of volunteers, it has limited funds at its disposal and is reliant on the generosity of sponsors to provide the quality materials required to carry out its conservation work in the most sustainable manner.

Built in 2004, the Visitor and Education Centre houses the Trust offices, archives and a number of rooms for group hire. With its attractive riverside location at the side of Cornard Lock, it makes an ideal place for school visits, enabling children to learn more about the river environment. Visitors of all ages can also visit the centre by boat on one of the Trust’s organised river trips or under their own paddle power.

The Committee was very keen to redecorate its two-storey timber clad building with Sadolin Classic Wood Protection because of the product’s reputation for longevity and its ability to provide effective protection of timber in adverse weather conditions.

“Many of the Trust members live close to the Visitor Centre so we really understand the need to protect buildings from the damp conditions and low lying mists that prevail along the Stour,” said Martin Lees, Trust Chairman.

“Redecorating a building like this is a huge project for us and we didn’t want to have to do it again for many years, so it was important to source the best possible woodcare products available. Quite a few of the volunteers have personal experience of working with Sadolin Classic and knew how easy it was to apply and produce an excellent finish. Fortunately for us, when Crown Paints heard about our project, and our lack of funds, they kindly agreed to donate what we needed.”
