Sadolin Classic and Extra give tennis club advantage
An attractive timber built pavilion has made an enormous difference to Longton Tennis Club and its 120 members. The facility, purchased with the help of a grant from recycling and waste management company SITA, has been decorated and protected from the elements with a premium wood protection system supplied free of charge to the club by Sadolin, the woodcare specialists.
Committee member Chris Rodd says: “This club has somehow managed to keep going without any accommodation of its own for over fifteen years. Our members have had nowhere to meet, nowhere to get changed and store belongings, and nowhere to take shelter in bad weather. Now we have this super new ‘log-cabin style’ building that we can call our own. It’s a changing facility, a meeting place and a proper club house and it’s just great for spectators to be able to gather on the veranda and watch matches being played”.
The Club’s custom designed timber framed and clad building arrived at Longton Memorial Playing Fields in ‘flat pack’ format. “We brought in a local builder to erect it and because we’d been advised by the manufacturer that we should immediately get the timber decorated and protected, we turned to Sadolin for advice and assistance,” continued Chris.
“We were looking for a natural low sheen finish and wanted all the grain and detailing of the woodwork to show through. At the same time we wanted to give our new building a high level of protection against the elements. Sadolin advised us to use a combination of Classic Wood Protection, which would soak right into the new timber and provide a tough base, followed by Extra Durable Woodstain for effective weather protection.”
“We’d spent all our grant money on the actual building and new perimeter fencing and consequently had to pay for the pavilion to be erected out of club funds. When Sadolin heard about the way we trying to develop the tennis club as an inclusive community facility for the whole village, they kindly offered to help by providing all the woodcare products we needed free of charge. All we had to do was decide on a colour from the many different shades on offer, and sort out a team of volunteer ‘decorators’ to carry out the work.
“It had been an absolutely lousy month and we were desperate to get the woodwork protected. Suddenly one weekend the weather changed and we managed to get the whole job done in two days. The coatings went on absolutely beautifully and we had no problems whatsoever, except for aching arms after a few hours work!”
Chris concludes: “Our new pavilion has given the club a tremendous boost. We’ve attracted lots of new members as a result and we’re also able to offer children from our local schools an opportunity to play here on a regular basis. Thanks to Sadolin our new building looks absolutely fantastic and we know we’ve given it the best possible protection so it will keep on looking great for many years to come.”
